La Mariposa
About This Spot
Stepping into La Mariposa, just off Robb Street in the heart of Summit, you’re embraced by an inviting warmth that lingers like a familiar hug. The pace here feels unhurried yet lively, where the hum of conversations blends effortlessly with the clinking of glasses and the gentle rhythm of Southern hospitality. It’s the kind of place where regulars and first-timers alike settle in easily, drawn by a genuine and heartfelt atmosphere that goes beyond just a meal.
The dining experience at La Mariposa is rooted in comfort and discovery, with each dish offering a glimpse into soulful, Creole-inspired flavors balanced by homegrown charm. Here, familiar Southern classics come with unexpected touches—fried green tomatoes served alongside crawfish sauce, or a po’boy that brings the vibrant spirit of New Orleans to a quaint Mississippi street. Whether it’s the rich, comforting warmth of a well-crafted gumbo or the playful freshness of a handmade burger, the food unfolds stories in every bite.
There’s a warmth in the way meals unfold here—whether it’s a casual dinner with friends or a slow Sunday brunch highlighting both hearty and delicate offerings. The side dishes, from crisp fried mushrooms to sweet potato fries, show thoughtful attention to texture and flavor, complementing the main courses without overshadowing them. Drinks add their own layer of ease and indulgence, with classic cocktails that feel like a natural part of the convivial scene rather than a showy afterthought.
What makes La Mariposa truly special isn’t just the food or the setting, but the human moments woven throughout. The staff’s welcoming spirit and the owner’s genuine presence create an atmosphere that feels less like dining out and more like sharing a trusted table with friends. It’s a place where stories stir between bites, laughter bubbles up freely, and the stresses of the outside world soften just enough to let the joy of good company and good food take center stage.
La Mariposa is a quietly confident neighborhood treasure—an unspoken invitation to slow down, savor the flavors, and find comfort not only in the dishes but in the space itself.

Wonderful food, great quality ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere. Our family has been here twice, the second time was to bring me so I could try it out. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Here's the skinny... The fried green tomatoes and mushrooms are excellent. They are golden fried and have excellent flavors. The sauce that is provided, should you wish to add more flavor, is enough for two people easily. The roast beef poboy is dressed and delicious. I keep mentioning flavor because I feel that's what this establishment really nails. Nothing is over the top. The seasoning is balanced even with the addition of items like Wasabi. They are not trying to bury the quality of food, but enhance it. The menu has variety, but also plenty of staple feel good options like burgers, poboys and salads. Leave room for dessert! The pineapple foster is amazing! I truly appreciated how well lit the dining area is with natural lighting. I love being able to see my food and the colorful butterfly decorations really add to the cheery atmosphere. A lot of love and attention to detail is found here. I'll be returning.

One of my favorite restaurants in the world!!! All fresh and delicious. The creole hamburger steak is STELLAR. She has brunch on Sundays as well. Don’t miss this fun, unique, wonderful place!!!

Cannot say enough great things about this restaurant…the food, the service, the atmosphere, the staff, etc! Everything I’ve ever had here is perfection! The burgers are huge & you can tell they’re freshly made. And the homemade French fries are a must for me every time we go there. The shrimp & corn soup is delicious (and I’m very picky with my seafood & where it comes from). And if you go there on steak night, don’t hesitate to get a ribeye! It’s soooo good! I always get my steaks cooked well-done (yes, I know that’s not recommended by restaurants). But if you know what you’re doing, you can cook a well done steak & have it still be tender & juicy. And Mercedes definitely knows what she’s doing!! My steak is always great there. This place is a regular stop for us. We love having Mercedes & her staff here in Summit!!

La Mariposa was an excellent place to go eat. This is our third time visiting and it has been amazing every time. We travel from Jackson and the gumbo, po boys, and fried green tomatoes are worth the drive. The staff are friendly and welcoming! Mercedes, the owner, is exciting and such a beautiful individual

This place is AMAZING. They were very knowledgeable about gluten and we're able to help me navigate the menu. The food is high quality ingredients with all the special touches. The picture is of a gluten free dessert called a Pineapple Foster. Less than $6 and a gluten free persons dream come true. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will find any excuse in the future to stop when traveling through again. Thank you for one of the best meals I have ever had!

After hiking at The Little Grand Canyon of Mississippi, we came here to eat. Thank goodness the other place we planned to go to in a nearby city was closed. The fried mushrooms are delicious. The breading on them was one of the best I've ever had. The sauce to dip them in is homemade, and they should bottle it and sell it!!! The salad was fabulous and had such a great variety of toppings. I love toppings with my lettuce! House dressing is perfection Last but not least, the cheesecake with no doubt homemade whipped cream. Fantastic and a must order! The staff are so accommodating and nice. Really great spot!!! Pull over, get off the interstate, and Go!!
